Turkey Apple Chili

A delightful dish that combines the savory flavor of turkey with the sweetness of apples, making it a healthy and hearty meal.

  • 1 Tbs olive oil
  • 2 cups sliced carrots
  • 2 cups sliced sweet potatoes
  • 2 cups diced apple
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp salt (divided)
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1 1/2 tsp rubbed sage (divided)
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • A sprinkle of nutmeg
  • 2 lbs ground lean turkey
  • 3 Tbs tomato paste
  • 2 tsp chili powder
  • 3 cups crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cups strained tomatoes (or marinara sauce)
  • 12 cans kidney beans

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  2. Add the diced apples, sweet potatoes, and carrots. Season with onion powder, garlic powder, salt, pepper, sage, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. Mix gently and cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Add ground turkey, breaking it into smaller pieces and cook until no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Stir in tomato paste, chili powder, sage, and salt.
  6. Pour in crushed tomatoes and strained tomatoes, mixing well.
  7. Reduce heat and let simmer for about 20-30 minutes. Add kidney beans towards the end of cooking.

Notes

Garnish with fresh herbs and serve with toppings like cheese and sour cream.
