Southern-Style Green Bean Casserole

A classic Southern dish featuring tender green beans in a creamy mushroom sauce, topped with crispy fried onions. Perfect for holiday gatherings or family dinners.

  • 2 cans (14.5 ounces each) green beans, drained
  • 1 can (10.5 ounces) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup French fried onions
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the drained green beans, cream of mushroom soup, milk, and half of the French fried onions. Add salt and pepper to taste and mix well.
  3. Pour the mixture into a baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
  5. Take the casserole out, stir it, and top with the remaining French fried onions and cheddar cheese if using.
  6. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  7. Let cool for a few minutes before serving warm.

Notes

This casserole can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator before baking. Add freshly blanched green beans for a fresher taste.
