Savory Traditional Meat Pie

A classic comfort food featuring tender ground beef, fragrant herbs, and a flaky pie crust, perfect for family dinners.

  • 1 recipe Pie Crust (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1 egg (for Egg Wash)
  • 1 pound Ground Beef
  • 1 medium Onion
  • 2 cloves Garlic
  • 2 medium Carrots (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons Flour
  • 1 cup Beef Broth
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Thyme
  • To taste Salt and Pepper

Instructions

  1. Prepare the pie crust by chilling the dough for at least 30 minutes if homemade.
  2. In a skillet, cook diced onion over medium heat until softened (about 5 minutes).
  3. Add minced garlic, cook for 1 minute.
  4. If using carrots, add and cook until tender (about 5 minutes).
  5. Add ground beef, breaking it up and cooking until browned (7-10 minutes).
  6. Sprinkle flour over the mixture, stir to combine.
  7. Pour in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce; bring to a simmer.
  8. Season with thyme, salt, and pepper, simmer until well combined.
  9. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  10. Roll out half of the pie dough and place in a pie dish, fill with meat mixture.
  11. Cover with second half of dough, crimp edges, and cut slits in the top crust.
  12. Brush with egg wash.
  13. Bake for 35-40 minutes until crust is golden brown.
  14. Cool for 10-15 minutes before slicing.
