Savory Oyster Dressing

  • 1 rib Celery (chopped)
  • 1 small Onion (chopped)
  • 1/2 cup Butter (cubed)
  • 3 cups Day-old bread (cubed)
  • 1/4 cup Fresh parsley (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon Poultry seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon Rubbed sage
  • 1/2 teaspoon Pepper
  • 1 large Egg (beaten)
  • 1 cup Chicken broth
  • 1 cup Shucked oysters (drained and coarsely chopped)

Instructions

  1. Prepare your ingredients by chopping the celery and onion into small pieces and cutting the bread into cubes.
  2. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat, then add the chopped celery and onion, sauté until soft (5-7 minutes).
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the cubed bread, sautéed vegetables, minced parsley, poultry seasoning, rubbed sage, and pepper, mixing thoroughly.
  4. Gently fold in the chopped oysters to ensure even distribution.
  5. Whisk together the beaten egg and chicken broth in another bowl, then pour it over the bread mixture.
  6. Mix everything together until well combined and the bread absorbs the broth.
  7. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish with butter. Transfer the dressing mixture into the dish and spread it evenly.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and crunchy.
  9. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

If preparing ahead of time, cool down and store in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days. Reheat in the oven before serving.
