  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • Cream cheese frosting (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and red food coloring to the butter-sugar mixture, mixing until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet mixture, stirring until a dough forms.
  6. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges are set and the centers appear soft.
  8. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. Frost with cream cheese frosting before serving.
