Oreo Bat Cupcakes

Delightful chocolate cupcakes decorated to resemble bats, perfect for Halloween celebrations.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 12 Double Stuf Oreos (for decoration)
  • 1 pack candy eyes
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 drops gel food colors

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, cocoa powder, granulated sugar, and salt. Stir well.
  3. In another bowl, mix together the milk, oil, egg, and vanilla extract. Whisk until well combined.
  4. Slowly add the wet mixture to the dry mixture. Stir until just combined.
  5. Gradually stir in the boiling water into the batter.
  6. Line a cupcake pan with paper liners and fill each about two-thirds full with the batter.
  7. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes. Check for doneness with a toothpick.
  8. Let the cupcakes cool in the pan for about 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. To make the frosting, beat the softened butter until smooth. Gradually add sifted powdered sugar, mixing well.
  10. Add gel food color to the frosting as desired.
  11. Once cool, frost each cupcake with the colored frosting.
  12. For decoration, twist apart an Oreo and place halves on both sides of the frosted cupcake for wings.
  13. Add candy eyes on top of the Oreo halves.

Notes

Keep cupcakes in an airtight container. Ideal for storing at room temperature for a couple of days, refrigerated for a week, or frozen longer.
