Monte Cristo French Toast Casserole

A delightful blend of flavors combining the classic tastes of a Monte Cristo sandwich wrapped in a comforting French toast base, perfect for breakfast or brunch.

  • 6 slices of French bread
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup honey ham, diced
  • 1 cup turkey, diced
  • 1 cup Swiss cheese, shredded
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  3. Cut the French bread into small cubes, about one inch in size.
  4. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon until smooth.
  5. Place the cubed French bread into the greased baking dish and pour the custard mixture over it, ensuring each piece is coated.
  6. Distribute the diced ham, turkey, and shredded Swiss cheese evenly over the soaked bread.
  7. Mix brown sugar with melted butter in a small bowl and drizzle it over the casserole.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, until golden brown and the custard is set.
  9. Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving warm.

Notes

For best results, use day-old French bread. Can be made ahead of time and refrigerated overnight.
