Monte Cristo French Toast Casserole

A delightful twist on a breakfast classic, combining the flavors of a Monte Cristo sandwich with the comforting goodness of French toast.

  • 1 loaf French bread, cut into cubes
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup honey ham, diced
  • 1 cup turkey, diced
  • 1 cup Swiss cheese, shredded
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare your baking dish.
  2. Grease a large 9×13-inch baking dish.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon.
  4. Layer half of the French bread cubes in the prepared baking dish.
  5. Top the bread with the diced ham, followed by the turkey. Sprinkle half of the shredded Swiss cheese over the top.
  6. Add the remaining French bread cubes on top and cover with the remaining Swiss cheese.
  7. Pour the custard mixture evenly over the layers of bread, ham, turkey, and cheese.
  8. In a small bowl, mix the melted butter with the brown sugar and drizzle it over the casserole.
  9. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  10. After 30 minutes, uncover and bake for another 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown and fully set.
  11. Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve warm with powdered sugar or syrup, and consider adding fresh fruit or garnishes for an elevated presentation.
