This Monte Cristo French Toast Casserole combines the flavors of a classic sandwich with the heartiness of French toast, making it an ideal choice for brunch or family breakfast.

  • 1 loaf French bread, cut into cubes
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup honey ham, diced
  • 1 cup turkey, diced
  • 1 cup Swiss cheese, shredded
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • Powdered sugar for serving (optional)
  • Maple syrup for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract.
  3. Layer half of the bread cubes in the baking dish, followed by half of the ham, turkey, and Swiss cheese.
  4. Pour half of the custard mixture over the layered ingredients.
  5. Repeat the layering process with the remaining ingredients.
  6. Mix brown sugar and melted butter in a small bowl, then drizzle over the casserole.
  7. Bake for 45-55 minutes until golden and set.
  8. Cool for a few minutes, dust with powdered sugar, and serve with maple syrup if desired.

Notes

Use day-old bread for better absorption of the custard mixture. You can prepare this casserole the night before and bake it in the morning.
