Monte Cristo French Toast Casserole

A delightful combination of savory and sweet, this Monte Cristo French Toast Casserole brings a twist to traditional breakfast meals, ideal for brunch or special occasions.

  • 1 loaf French bread
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 8 slices honey ham
  • 8 slices turkey
  • 8 slices Swiss cheese
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • Powdered sugar for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cut the French bread into cubes and layer half in the bottom of the baking dish.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth. Pour half over the bread cubes.
  4. Add layers of honey ham slices, turkey slices, and Swiss cheese on top.
  5. Layer the remaining bread cubes over the meat and cheese, then pour the rest of the custard mixture on top.
  6. Mix brown sugar and melted butter in a bowl, drizzle over the casserole.
  7. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Let it cool slightly, then cut into squares and serve warm, optionally dusted with powdered sugar.

Notes

Use day-old bread for better absorption. Customize with your choice of meats or cheeses.
