Homemade Pesto Sauce

A quick and easy homemade pesto sauce made with fresh basil, cheese, and nuts, perfect for enhancing pasta dishes, sandwiches, and more.

  • 2 cups fresh basil leaves
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup pine nuts
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Gather all your ingredients, ensuring the basil leaves are clean and dry.
  2. In a food processor, combine the fresh basil leaves, grated Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, pine nuts, and garlic.
  3. Pulse the mixture until finely chopped.
  4. While the processor is running, drizzle in the olive oil to emulsify the sauce.
  5. Add the heavy cream and blend until well combined. Adjust salt to taste.
  6. Serve immediately with pasta, on sandwiches, or as a dip.

Notes

Store pesto in an airtight container with a thin layer of olive oil on top to prevent oxidation. It can be refrigerated for about a week or frozen for several months.
