Flaky Spanakopita Spiral

A delicious and versatile dish featuring spinach, feta, and herbs wrapped in crispy phyllo dough, perfect for snacks, parties, or appetizers.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package of phyllo dough
  • 1 cup of spinach, chopped
  • 1 cup of feta cheese, crumbled
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/4 cup of fresh herbs (dill, parsley, mint)
  • 1/2 cup of melted butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a pan over medium heat, sauté the onion and garlic until the onion is translucent.
  3. Add the chopped spinach and cook until wilted.
  4. In a bowl, mix the sautéed onion, garlic, spinach, crumbled feta, fresh herbs, beaten egg, salt, and pepper.
  5. Unroll the phyllo dough, keeping unused sheets covered with a damp cloth. Lay a sheet flat and brush lightly with melted butter.
  6. Add another sheet of phyllo on top and brush again with butter. Repeat this for three sheets.
  7. Spread a portion of the filling along one edge of the phyllo, keeping it about an inch from the edges.
  8. Roll the phyllo dough away from the filling to create a tight spiral and pinch the edges to seal.
  9. Place the spiral on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and brush the top with more melted butter.
  10. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and flaky.
  11. Allow to cool slightly before slicing for serving.

Notes
