Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or a mix)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Chopped parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish with butter.
  2. In a saucepan, combine heavy cream, milk, garlic, salt, and pepper, and heat over medium until just simmering.
  3. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish, sprinkle with half of the cheese, then layer the remaining potatoes on top.
  4. Pour the cream mixture over the potatoes and finish with the remaining cheese.
  5. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  6. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  7. Let it cool for a few minutes, garnish with chopped parsley, and serve.

Notes

For extra flavor, try adding a pinch of nutmeg or some cooked bacon bits. Slicing the potatoes evenly ensures uniform cooking.
