2 ½ cups all-purpose flour (Whole wheat flour)
1 cup sugar (Brown sugar or coconut sugar)
1 cup unsalted butter (Coconut oil or margarine)
2 large eggs (Flaxseed meal for a vegan option)
4 cups peeled and sliced apples (Pears or peaches)
2 tsp cinnamon (Nutmeg or pumpkin spice)
1 cup salted caramel sauce (Chocolate sauce or homemade caramel)
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking dish with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. Add the cubed butter and mix until crumbly. You can use a pastry cutter, fork, or your hands to blend the mixture. Form it into a dough.
Press 2/3 of the dough evenly into the lined baking dish. Bake for 10 minutes until lightly golden.
While the crust is baking, peel, core, and slice your apples. In a separate bowl, combine the sliced apples with cinnamon and a bit of sugar. Toss until the apples are evenly coated.
Once the crust is out of the oven, layer the spiced apples on top of the hot crust. Crumble the remaining dough over the apples.
Bake for an additional 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the apples are softened.
Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan. Once cool, drizzle with salted caramel sauce. Use a sharp knife to cut into squares.
