Creepy Shepherd’s Pie

A fun and spooky twist on the classic shepherd’s pie, perfect for Halloween gatherings with delicious green mashed potatoes and spooky decorations.

  • 1 lb ground beef or lamb
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup peas
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 lbs potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Green food coloring (for spooky effect)
  • Black olives (for decoration)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a skillet, cook ground meat, onion, and garlic until browned.
  3. Add carrots, peas, tomato paste, and beef broth; simmer for 10 minutes.
  4. In a pot, boil potatoes until tender, then drain. Mash with milk, butter, salt, and pepper.
  5. Mix in green food coloring for a spooky look.
  6. In a baking dish, layer the meat mixture, then top with green mashed potatoes.
  7. Use black olives to create spooky faces on top.
  8. Bake for 20 minutes until heated through and slightly golden. Serve hot.

Notes

Make sure to season well for the best flavor. Can be prepared ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator.
