Cocoa Ribbon Cookies

A delightful combination of sweet chocolate and zesty orange flavors in a unique cookie treat.

  • 8 tablespoons Unsalted butter (softened)
  • 3 ounces Dark chocolate (melted)
  • 5 medium Oranges (zest and juice)
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon Kosher salt
  • 1/4 cup Extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1/4 cup Sour cream
  • 2 cups All-purpose flour (divided)
  • 2 tablespoons Dutch-processed cocoa powder
  • 4 ounces Dark chocolate (for drizzling)
  • 1 tablespoon Granulated sugar (for sprinkling)
  • Flaky salt (for sprinkling)
  • 1/4 medium Orange (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cream together the softened butter until fluffy.
  3. Gradually mix in the granulated sugar until smooth.
  4. Mix in the melted dark chocolate.
  5. Add the zest and juice of 3 medium oranges.
  6. Pour in the extra-virgin olive oil and sour cream, and mix well.
  7. In another bowl, whisk together 2 cups of flour, cocoa powder, and kosher salt, then slowly add to the wet mixture.
  8. If the dough is sticky, add reserved flour gradually until manageable.
  9. Divide the dough and mix cocoa powder into one half.
  10. Roll both dough halves and layer them, then roll into a log.
  11. Chill the log for 30 minutes wrapped in plastic.
  12. Slice into 1/4-inch cookies, place on a baking sheet, and bake for 10-12 minutes.
  13. Drizzle with melted dark chocolate and sprinkle with sugar, flaky salt, and garnish with orange segments after cooling.

Notes

Use quality dark chocolate and fresh oranges for the best flavor. Don’t skip chilling the dough to maintain cookie structure.
