Chicken Tikka Masala

A flavorful dish featuring marinated chicken in a creamy, spiced tomato sauce, perfect for family dinners.

  • 1 pound boneless chicken thighs or breasts
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
  • 2 teaspoons garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  1. Begin by cutting the chicken into bite-sized pieces and seasoning lightly with salt.
  2. In a large skillet or pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat.
  3. Add the diced onions and sauté until softened and slightly translucent, about 4-5 minutes.
  4. Add the minced garlic and ginger, cooking for an additional minute.
  5. Stir in the garam masala, cumin, turmeric, and chili powder, cooking for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  6. Add the seasoned chicken pieces and cook until browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes.
  7. Pour in the crushed tomatoes and stir to combine, then let simmer for about 10 minutes.
  8. Stir in the heavy cream and cook for an additional 5-10 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  9. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with rice or naan.

Notes

For deeper flavor, consider marinating the chicken in yogurt and spices beforehand.
