Apple Steel Cut Oatmeal

A delicious and nutritious breakfast made with steel cut oats, apples, and cinnamon, perfect for any time of year.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup steel cut oats
  • 4 cups water or milk
  • 2 medium apples, diced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey (optional)
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, bring 4 cups of water or milk to a boil.
  2. Add the steel cut oats and a pinch of salt to the boiling liquid.
  3. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Add the diced apples and ground cinnamon to the saucepan.
  5. Continue to simmer for another 15-20 minutes until creamy and the oats are tender.
  6. Stir in maple syrup or honey if desired, adjusting to taste.
  7. Serve warm in bowls with desired toppings.

Notes

Great with toppings such as nuts, yogurt, or extra fruit. Can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
